Surf Preteen Ministry

SURF students in 5th and 6th grade are at a very transitional point in their lives, neither wanting to be treated as kids, nor yet ready to be treated as teens. It is Surf’s desire to minister to preteens by teaching them about Identity (Who God is + Who Am I), Belonging (Who is the Church + Where Do I Fit In), and Mission (Who is Jesus + What is my Mission).

Surf Meets in the Surf Shack on the west side of the NewCov campus.

Contact our Family/Preteen Pastor, Chip, for more info on Surf Preteen ministries at [email protected] or (559) 298-0688.

Sunday Mornings

Surf is currently meeting in the Surf Shack at the 9:00am service ONLY! We hope to return to service at 10:45am later in the spring of 2021.

  • At 9:00am, Dan Bartel and his team take an apologetics approach for preteens, and teach them how to solidify a faith of their own and how to defend the many questions that they will come across in this world. Topics include science, world religions, preparing for adolescence, how to study the Bible, etc.
Wednesday Nights

Surf meets every Wednesday night from 6:30-8:15 in the Upper Room. All preteens are welcome to join in the fun!

Surf Wednesday nights is a preteen youth group just for 5th and 6th graders.  We use creative and fun teaching to make the Bible come alive, and well as unique games and our special Gremmy groups to surround preteens with fellow preteens to journey through life with and a Lifeguard (mentor) to help guide them.

Wagon Train is a fun, rustic summer camp for students in 5th and 6th grade. This Old West experience includes sleeping in a real covered wagon, learning Archery and BB guns, riding canoes and kayaks around the pond and exploring Fort Logan (our three story island fort). You’ll also sit around a campfire singing worship songs, memorize scripture, watch amazing skits about the Bible performed by the Wagon Train staff and hear each morning and evening the Good News of Jesus and his love for us.

2020 Summer Camp has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2021 dates will be released in the fall.

VBX is an extreme version of our summer Vacation Bible Adventure — just for 5th and 6th graders! In addition to the morning programs at NewCov, VBX includes afternoon experiences just for preteens, like roller skating, bowling, or DEFY. VBX is an awesome place for 5th and 6th graders just beginning to explore a relationship with Jesus Christ, as well as those who have grown up in the church and are seeking to strengthen their personal relationship with God.

2020 VBX has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2021 dates will be release in the fall. Registration Begins Mother’s Day.
